WHO WE ARE

HISTORY

The Pine Grove Association, Inc., established in 1993, has been steadfast in its mission to strengthen communities through programs that incorporate values, develop individual talents and leadership skills, and promote social well-being. The Association’s journey is one of service, collaboration, and growth, deeply rooted in its community.

Founding and Early Activities

The Association was born from the vision of local residents who wanted to provide constructive activities for children in the community. Rufus Carson, a local landowner, donated land and funded the construction of the Pine Grove Center, a hub for fellowship, education, and community activities. In February 1993, the Pine Grove Association received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, formalizing its commitment to service.

In its early years, the Association launched a variety of programs aimed at youth and adults alike. A hallmark of its efforts was the Pine Grove Pioneers 4-H Club, which enabled youth to compete in contests at local, state, and national levels. Environmental education, drug and alcohol prevention programs like Project MOVE FORWARD, and arts and crafts workshops were among the many initiatives that enriched the lives of participants.

Expanding Impact

Over the years, the Pine Grove Association expanded its reach with programs such as the Senior Citizens Recognition Program, the Pine Grove Community Fellowship Choir, and financial management workshops for adults. Collaborations with organizations like Alcorn State University Extension Service, the City of Canton, and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality have been instrumental in implementing these initiatives. Signature programs include:

Environmental Activities: Adopt-A-Road Project and Environmental Day.

Community Service: Clothes Give-Away, Adopt-A-Family, and scholarships for high school graduates.

Celebrations and Awareness: Hosting Juneteenth Celebrations and community forums.

Youth Programs: The MAGIC Youth Program, designed to mentor and guide young people through leadership development, and a golf program that introduces youth to the sport while teaching discipline, focus, and sportsmanship.

The Association has also provided support to vulnerable populations through care packages for the sick and shut-in, bereavement donations, and assistance for residents of the Christian Care Assisted Living Center.

The HOPE Center: A Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, the Pine Grove Association is poised to further its mission through the development of the HOPE Center. This new initiative aims to:

Empower Youth: By offering after-school tutoring, leadership development programs, and spaces for creative expression.

Support Families: Through workshops on financial literacy, health and wellness programs, and access to community resources.

Foster Community Engagement: By providing a venue for cultural events, community forums, and collaborative projects.

The HOPE Center will embody the Association’s commitment to holistic community development, serving as a beacon of opportunity and growth for Madison County residents.

Leadership and Commitment

Under the guidance of its founding Executive Director, Angela Carson, the Association has flourished. With over 25 years of nonprofit management experience, Carson’s leadership has been pivotal in shaping the organization’s direction. The Board of Directors, comprised of professionals from diverse fields, continues to generate program ideas, establish partnerships, and volunteer at events, ensuring the sustainability of the Association’s efforts.

Continuing the Legacy

As the Pine Grove Association embarks on its next chapter with the HOPE Center, it remains committed to its founding principles. By building on its rich history of service and collaboration, the Association will continue to inspire positive change and foster a stronger, more connected community.
